I thought I'd better write something on here before everyone totally gives up on this and goes back to reading decent music journalism.
So for the return post I'm just going to hand to you a load of songs that reach 'badman' status.
First up is
GRUM with an absolute beast of a song that goes by the name of Go Back. This follows the Ed Banger blueprint to the fine details, but is so implausibly crazy that I'm sure anyone will ignore the fact it's a bandwagon stowaway.
GRUM - Go BackThe Whip's album '
X Marks Destination' came out on Monday and I can officially say it's good. The album has quite a lot of variation between songs, from the Crystal Castlesque 'Divebomb', to the 80s New Wave sounding gliding synths and static drums of 'Sirens'.
The Whip - DivebombAlso out on Monday was
Does It Offend You, Yeah's debut '
You Have No Idea What You Are Getting Yourself Into'. Despite having a very silly name this is a truly essential album that you must own and usually I don't enforce purchases so much, but for this I'll make an exception. Influenced by their live shows, this album is pretty heavy on guitars, which came as quite a surprise after the almost 100% electronic 'We Are Rockstars' and 'Battle Royal'. This change has lead to the creation of fantastic album centrepieces 'With A Heavy Heart (I Regret To Inform You)' and 'Doomed Now'
Does It Offend You, Yeah? - With A Heavy Heart (I Regret To Inform You)After ditching the old man,
Mystery Jets have created a
super album and have rightfully gained a barrage of fans.
The Shoes have remixed Young Love, their current single with a guest appearance from
Laura Marling. It's a pretty standard example of remixing by numbers, but works well; introducing some lovely upbeat snares, hand claps and synth wibbles.
Mystery Jets - Young Love (The Shoes Remix)Next up is a song sent by the nice PR lady. The song in question is 'I Love You' by Merok signed
Esser. My opinion is split on this one. They described it as being like 'a 30's gramophone hot-wired by Blur in their glorious Popscene days with a healthy injection of full-on fuzzed-up bass", which although sounding funny is actually quite accurate. I can see this becoming one of them 'summer anthems' that get annoying quite quickly, but for now I like it, I think.
Esser - I Love YouPS. If you liked
Flight Of The Conchords, Jermaine is in
Eagle vs Shark, which I'm about to watch, he's also filming
Gentlemen Broncos, in which "a teenager attends a fantasy writers' convention where he discovers his idea has been stolen by an established novelist." Cue funny scenes.
